Harvested Cos Lettuce and Pok Choy

Iceberg Lettuce

This is the harvested look of first successful pot of Iceberg lettuce. Iceberg lettuce grows much slower than Pok Choy. From seedlings to this size, it takes 2 months. It's very satisfying to eat homegrown green, fresh, crunchy and organic.

Despite Aphids attack, this pot of oldest lettuce is growing very well.

It's best to cover up young seedlings after transferring to pot. Use transparent plastic container as DIY greenhouse can be very economic.

Lettuce progress. This pot has grown quite well. However, the garlic spray hasn't done much repelling aphids. I can still find aphids on the lettuce thankfully not in millions. I am not spraying anything on the lettuce, I have settled to squashing the green bugs whenever I spot them munching on this leafy green.

These sick little bastards are sucking my lettuce to death. Instead of blasting them with water today, I cut down the whole leaf and smashed them nicely with my slipper and put the leaf back in the pot for future invaders to see.

It would seem that the garlic spray treatment is only good for about a week and then these suckers are back.

Found aphids on my lettuce today. Gasp!!!! I blasted some off with small spray bottle. This is bad news.

I have read up about aphids online. They are nasty...no wonder my lettuces look so tired. I have a few options:

1. The liquid detergent, baking soda water spray method. I tried but quickly rinsed them off the leaves, feeling it could burn the lettuce.

2. Garlic water spray method. I am going to spray some tomorrow once I let the boiling garlic water sit for a night.
